Floating Water Tap

The Floating Water Tap: what you should know

The principle behind the illusion

Water flows from a tap that seems to hover freely in mid-air — no visible pipe, no connection, no explanation. The secret: water flows through an invisible tube inside the water jet itself. The flow surrounds the transparent tube completely and makes it invisible to the human eye. The result is an illusion that keeps surprising people, even those to whom the principle has already been explained.

Handcrafted for decades

Michael Krauss is one of the pioneers of the floating water tap in the German-speaking world. As a trained blacksmith and graduate of the Munich Academy of Fine Arts, he combines technical craftsmanship with artistic vision. Every piece leaves the workshop in Malgersdorf as a one-off — no serial production, no assembly line.

Models and finishes

The floating water tap is available in several variations: classic on a stainless-steel base, with a copper or stainless-steel bucket, as a pond fountain, in a cube design in stainless steel, and as a bronze version for indoor use. All stainless-steel models are suitable for outdoor installation and weatherproof.

Technology and connection

To operate the tap you need a power outlet (230 V) for the circulation pump. The water runs in a closed cycle — consumption is minimal. An external water connection is possible but not necessary. In winter the water should be drained to prevent frost damage.

Frequently asked questions about the floating water tap

How exactly does a floating water tap work?

The water flows through a thin, transparent plastic tube inside the water jet. The flowing water optically conceals the tube completely. At the top, water exits the tap; at the bottom it runs back into a basin, from where the pump sends it up again — a closed cycle without water loss.

Can the floating water tap stand outdoors?

Yes, all stainless-steel models are designed for outdoor use. They handle rain, sun, and temperature swings without issues. Before the first frost the water should be drained completely.

How much electricity does it use?

The circulation pump uses very little power — comparable to a small LED lamp. There are no noticeable running costs in continuous operation.

Is the floating water tap suitable as a gift?

Absolutely — it is one of the most unusual gifts for garden lovers and art enthusiasts. On request we also build smaller versions specifically as gifts.

How do I get a price?

Because every piece is handcrafted and sizes and finishes vary, prices are quoted on request. Call us (+49 9954 1566) or send a message — we respond quickly and personally.
