Iron and Steel Garden Sculptures

Metal Sculptures: what you should know

Between craft and art

Michael Krauss studied at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts and learned the blacksmith's trade from the ground up. His work moves along the line between artisan craft and free art — and this is especially clear in his sculptures. Animal figures in iron and steel, made with quiet precision: no mass production, no reproductions, but originals from a workshop in Lower Bavaria.

The motifs

Among the most popular pieces are animal sculptures such as Ratte (the rat), Horst (the stork), Hühner (the chickens), and Susanna — figures with character, often with a twinkle in the eye, always executed with craftsmanship and care. They work as garden decoration, as accents in interior spaces, or as an unusual gift idea.

Material and surface

The pieces are made from iron and steel — materials that develop a natural rust patina over time and gain more character as the years pass. On request a protective clear coat can be applied to preserve the current state. Polished or blackened finishes are also possible.

Editions and one-offs

Most artworks are made as small editions or as single one-offs — your piece may exist in only one or two copies worldwide. On request entirely new motifs are also created from individual designs, for companies, institutions, or private commissions.

Frequently asked questions about the artworks

Can the artworks be placed in the garden?

Yes. All pieces are made for outdoor use and are weatherproof. Many customers consciously choose the natural rust patina that develops over time — it gives the work its own life. If you prefer to preserve the current surface, we apply a protective coating on request.

Are commissioned works possible?

Yes, individual commissions are welcome. Tell us about the motif, the location, and the desired size — we will sketch a proposal and quote a fixed price after the design phase.

How heavy are the pieces?

Weight depends on the motif and size. Smaller figures (e.g. the chickens) weigh a few kilograms; larger sculptures can weigh significantly more. We provide the exact weight with each individual quote.

How are the artworks delivered?

We arrange shipping with a freight forwarder or, by appointment, you can collect the pieces directly from the workshop in Malgersdorf, Bavaria. Crating and protective packaging is included in shipping orders.

How do I get a price?

Because every piece is handcrafted and sizes and finishes vary, prices are quoted on request. Call (+49 9954 1566) or send a message — we reply quickly and personally.
